So you’re the one cooking Christmas dinner this year?
With the pressure on to provide family and friends with a feast of epic proportions, it can sometimes be useful to know where you can get a little help in the kitchen.
Helping isn’t cheating, because if you’re relaxed and enjoying the preparations so too will your guests. Besides, there’s nothing less festive than a stressed chef!
We know cooking Christmas dinner can be stressful. You spend hours slaving away in a hot kitchen, for all the food to disappear within minutes of it being served.
To give you an extra helping hand in the kitchen, and make you enjoy planning your perfect Christmas menu, we’ve revealed some top tips on those essential dishes, and how Plumb’s can give you a little sous chef support.
The Tender Turkey
During the festive season, we’ll have Waterhall Free Range Turkeys available at Plumb’s.
As the meat of the season it’s essential you get the right size turkey and prepare it well in advance so that your guests will want to take home leftovers.
Once you’ve purchased your turkey check that it fits in your oven. It’s a common mistake many people make, so do it before you go any further with your preparations.
To get a moist turkey, there are a few tricks to take note of.
First of all, always ensure you’ve placed your turkey in a deep enough roasting tin, and always pre-heat the oven.
If it’s a big turkey, check the recommended cooking guidelines by weight.
A well-known top chef also adds a little chicken stock to the roasting tin, so the turkey can get extra soft and tender.
The Best Yorkshire Puddings
You can’t make any Yorkshire puddings without milk, so before you go any further ensure you’ve got your Plumb’s delivery coming soon, and that you’ve ordered plenty of the good stuff.
If you want to make Yorkshire puddings that are going to make your guests mouth drop, then we would highly recommend following the Dairy Diary’s recipe for the perfect rise.
However, if you want to go it alone, there are a few tips we would recommend. For example, place your batter in the fridge before you add it to the preheated tray. This will guarantee a gorgeous rise on your Yorkshire puddings.
The Crispiest Roast Potatoes
At Plumb’s, we can now delivery Cheveley Fruit and Veg boxes, which means your roast potatoes are locally grown.
There are many household debates about the best part of a Christmas dinner, but if you’ve got big fans of the roast potato, then you won’t want to disappoint.
To get your potatoes crispy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside, parboil them for 20 minutes.
Once they’ve had a boil, place them in a pre-heated roasting in covered in goose fat. Sprinkle them with salt, a dusting of plain flour and a drizzle of olive oil. If you’re feeling extra fancy, you could even add a spring of rosemary. Place in the oven for 40 minutes, and you’ll have potatoes that get all the good marks.
The Delicious Dessert
During the Christmas season, we’ll have a range of Christmas Puddings available at Plumb’s if you don’t have the time to make your own.
However, if you have some guests who aren’t keen on Christmas pudding, the Dairy Diary have a range of delicious desserts that will keep even the fussiest of eaters happy.
