To celebrate ‘shop local’ week, we caught up with Lily from Yare Valley oils.
We stock the Yare Valley oil range from cold-pressed rapeseed oil to horseradish, all delicious.
How and when did Yare Valley start?
The Mack family have been farming the fertile soils for over a decade. Yare Valley Oils started after Tim and Will, the father and son team, had been growing rape for many years and selling the seed on, but after learning about the benefits of Rapeseed Oil they decided to start pressing the seed themselves. That was 10 years in 2010 and Rapeseed Oil is now a cornerstone of the business.
What’s the secret ingredient!?
We really believe that the secret ingredient for the products that we create is the land which it comes from. We’re based right beside the Norfolk broads and we think that the soil here makes our product unique from others. Not only that, we have a small dedicated team who ensure that our customers receive quality products every time.
Why do you feel it’s important to shop local and work with businesses like us?
There are so many reasons why it’s important to support your local shops and businesses just like Plumbs’ Dairy! Not only do you carefully curate your offerings to ensure your customers have quality products to enjoy, but it’s also so important for the local economy and creates jobs in the community too. We find that businesses like Plumbs’ Dairy share our ethos and are passionate about supporting each other.
What’s your favourite recipe using one of your products?
Our products are so versatile that it’s honestly so hard to choose just one! The Oil itself is a very pure oil made by cold-pressing the seeds, which means it’s delicate enough for dressing and drizzling, yet it has a high smoke point of around 240°C so it’s equally robust enough for frying, roasting and baking!
My favourite recipe however would be using our Great Taste Award Winning Horseradish sauce to make Cheese on Toast. Simply grill one side of sliced bread under the grill, remove when it’s nicely toasted. In a mixing bowl stir together half a handful of your favourite grated cheese with a dollop of our Horseradish sauce, spoon onto the untoasted side of the bread and replace back under the grill. Wait until it’s golden and bubbling, then enjoy!!
